What happens in situations where a genetic disorder causes a baby to be unable to have their mother's own breastmilk? I know at least 3 mothers who had to switch out to formula because of this. One was my sister in law. She had breastfed her two older children with no issues and the youngest had to be taken into emergency. It's late right now and I can't recall the name of the disorder they had but without the specialized formula these kids would have died. I agree with breastfeeding first and foremost but there are some actual medical exceptions and reasons why formula may have to be used.
